Limited Submission Funding

The Grant Lifecycle

Limited submission proposals are funding opportunities where the sponsor restricts the number of applications or proposals an institution may submit. For all limited submission funding opportunities, ORSP coordinates an internal competition to identify the project(s) with the highest likelihood of receiving funding. To ensure a fair and competitive selection process, ORSP requires all investigators interested in limited submission funding to follow this process.鈥疶he Limited Submission Proposals Policy听may be found here.

Procedure for Limited Submission Funding Opportunities

Announcement of Opportunities

  • The call for an Expression of Interest (EOI) on a relevant campus-wide limited submission opportunity will be announced via email through the DU PI listserv and cross posted on the website, relevant Teams Channels, and internal department newsletters as necessary.
  • Notice of internal competition EOI posted at least 10 weeks in advance of sponsor deadline (this may vary and increase up to 16 weeks for particularly large, complex, or multidisciplinary funding opportunities).
  • A maximum of 4 weeks will be allotted for the internal selection process.
  • A minimum of 6 weeks will remain in advance of the sponsor deadline for the internal EOI winner to develop their proposal.
  • Opportunities that cannot be posted in this timeline will be evaluated and shared with all campus on a case-by-case basis.
  • If individual faculty or staff become aware of limited submission funding opportunities not posted through the above sources, they should notify ORSP immediately at ORSP@du.edu. Include 鈥淟imited Submission鈥 in the email subject line.听听听

Internal Application Process

  • Internal application requirements may vary based on funding source requirements but will typically include 1) a project summary; 2) A budget overview outlining basic project costs; 3) A curriculum vitae/bio sketch of the Principal Investigator(s); and 4) Discusses the opportunity requirements with the Principal Investigators鈥 department, affirming support for the application.
  • The submission mechanism will be announced alongside the campus-wide call for an EOI. The submission mechanism may vary and may include submission via email, via web form, or other electronic method.听听听

Internal Review Process

  • Final selection(s) of EOI internal competition winners is at the discretion of the review committee, consisting of faculty and staff with expertise in the relevant discipline as the Request for Proposals. Committee members are selected by the Senior Vice Provost of Research.听听听

Notification to Applicants

  • ORSP will notify all applicants via email of the final decision. When possible, applicants will receive reviewer feedback.
  • Proposal materials should not be submitted to the sponsor until a final selection is made and the winner of the internal competition has been notified.听听听

Expectations for Internal Winners

  • It is the responsibility of the PI to notify their ORSP Grants & Contracts Administrator of their intent to submit a proposal 30 days in advance of the sponsor deadline. ORSP proposal submission instructions will be shared thereafter.
  • Penalty for Non-Submission: If the PI selected during an internal competition does not submit their proposal to the limited opportunity, they will be restricted from applying to an internal campus competition for a minimum of two years.听听
