Crimson Compost was launched by the Center for a Regenerative Future in January 2022, for those who wish to have access to securecomposting facilities. The program was created to encouragefaculty, staff, and students living near campus inmulti-unit rentals, whereaccess to the City of Denver’s compost program is typically unavailable, to continue orbegincomposting – a crucial step in helping to divert waste from the landfill.
Members will haveaccess a secure bin found at theoldEnglish LearningCenter(in the alley between Josephine and Columbia, at Asbury)todispose of their compost.Crimson Compost makes it easy to get started with in-home compost collection while also providing support with any questions that a member may have.
Membership Costs
Crimson Compost looks to make composting not only accessible but affordable. Compared to other composting services, Crimson Compost was designed with student budgets in mind and created to support university sustainability endeavors from proceeds.
We offer three different membership types, depending on the size of your home:
- Apartment Membership (1-2 people in home) - $8 per month
- Household Membership (3 or more people in home) - $12 per month
- Fraternity or Sorority House Membership - $75 per month
Members have the option to pay monthly (with manual or automatic payments), or todoa one-time payment for an entire academic year (September through November and January through June) OR calendar year (September throughJune). Those who choose to do a one-time payment will receive a discount – 10% for an academic year or 15% for a calendar year.

Member Benefits
Crimson Compost members will receive a welcome kit when they join. This kit includes:
- A two-gallon compost bucket with sealable lid
- 10 compostable bucket liners to get you started (you can purchase additional liners at most major grocery stores – just make sure they say “compostable”)
- A magnet with most compostable items listed on it
- A welcome letter that describes how the program works and what you can compost
Additionally, members will get a monthly email with the access code to the compost dumpster for that month, plus tons of tips, tricks, and information about waste and compost on campus and around Denver. Members will alsohave access to composting experts at the Center for a Regenerative Future, who are able to answer any questionsyou might have. You can pick up your member kit on the first floor of the Community Commons in the Green Suite (COMM-1100). Please arrange your pick-up using the email below.
